From the “who can you trust?” department, a police officer in Greensboro, NC has been charged with identity theft.
(Well, if we want to be picky, its really identity fraud).
The officer, Brian Coble, had already been suspended from the force without pay, but these new charges won’t have him back at work anytime soon. He was arrested at home.
Breaking Up Is Hard To Do
The charges were filed by Coble’s ex-girlfriend. The mess started when she bought some items on Coble’s computer from the Nieman Marcus website using her credit card.
Soon after, she realized that she hadn’t received her statement (Coble had picked up the mail) and checked her balance. Imagine her surprise when she saw $4300 worth of clothing and jewelry purchases that she didn’t make.
When it became clear that he wasn’t going to pay her back, she broke up with him (smart move) and filed an internal affairs report.
Trust No One
Aside from the police officer angle, this is another example of identity theft or fraud committed by a loved one. As much as you like and trust your significant other, be careful and always be vigilant like this woman was to detect identity theft.
