A Georgia woman’s quick action led to a person in Santa Rosa, CA being arrested and charged with 152 counts of identity theft, 79 counts of credit card fraud, and possession of stolen property.
The Georgia woman noticed some strange charges on her credit card statement so she quickly called the sheriff’s department. Detectives intercepted the package and delivered it to Tina Marie Ryan of Sonoma County.
When the police searched the home, they found a large identity theft operation: there were 100 packages of goods worth over $14,000 using victim’s credit cards.
How did she get the information? From a database held with her previous employer, which was unfortunately not named.
She’ll be in court in 2 weeks so hopefully they will throw the book at her. This case again shows the importance of both keeping information secure in the workplace as well as being on top of your finances so that you can quickly notice anything strange and react.
Good job, unnamed Georgia woman!
